What's new about the Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen)?

It's slimmer, just 17.8 mm, and redesigned with a matte-white finish. The battery is now rechargeable. You also get a new light ring for quick adjustments and an LED matrix display that shows the temperature and humidity together.

Is tado° compatible with my heating system?

The Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) works with 95% of heating systems across Europe, including gas boilers, heat pumps, and water-based underfloor heating. To check your exact setup in just a few seconds, use our compatibility checker.

Can I install tado° on my own?

Yes. The tado° Wireless Receiver is easy to wire to your boiler, and the Wireless Temperature Sensor itself doesn't need to be wired at all, meaning you can fit it wherever you want or place it using the stand. The tado° app tailors its instructions to your exact heating system and guides you through the installation step by step.

Will I have to replace the batteries?

No. The 2nd gen has a built-in rechargeable battery. Charge it before the heating season with a USB-C cable, and you're all set.

Is the 2nd gen compatible with my existing tado° X devices?

Yes. The 2nd gen works with all tado° X products, including 1st gen. It's not compatible with tado° V3+ or older devices.

What does the top button do?

Press once to wake up the screen. Press again for a shortcut of your choice: resume your schedule, boost your heating, or check the room's humidity.

What's the difference between the Wired and Wireless Smart Thermostat?

The Wired Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) connects directly to your boiler wiring, replacing your existing wired thermostat on the same wires. The Wireless Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) pairs with a Wireless Receiver installed at the boiler, so you can position it anywhere in a room without any wiring.

Can I use tado° X for cooling with my underfloor heating?

Not at the moment. The tado° X line controls heating only. For cooling a room with an air conditioner, we recommend the tado° Smart AC Control.

¹ Up to 55% more savings is based on internal modelling comparing the use of tado° AI Assist vs the free tado° app. Actual savings depend on household characteristics, usage patterns and external factors.
² Actual savings depend on household energy use and may vary. €485 annual savings reflect 22% of the EU average gas heating bill (€2,208) as reported by Eurostat for 2024, based on our user base average. Results may differ.

*This feature is available in combination with the Smart Radiator Thermostat X.
**Only works in homes with their own boiler or heat pump. All radiators must be equipped with tado° Smart Radiator Thermostats.
